    • Arrow Lecture Series on Ethics and Leadership


      Ken ArrowIn 2005, Patrick Byrne, the founder and CEO of Internet retailer Overstock.com, who holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Stanford endowed the Arrow Lecture Series in Ethics and Leadership. The series is named in honor of Nobel Laureate Kenneth Arrow, the Joan Kenney Professor of Economics and Professor of Operations Research, Emeritus. Professor Arrow has made many contributions to welfare economics, social choice theory and collective decision-making. He was also a founding member of the Ethics in Society honors program.

      "Designing a Path to Sustainable Development"
      Jeffrey Sachs

      Professor Sachs is the Director of The Earth Institute, Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development, and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University. He is also a Special Advisor to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. From 2002 to 2006, he was Director of the UN Millennium Project and Special Advisor to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the Millennium Development Goals, the internationally agreed goals to reduce extreme poverty, disease, and hunger by the year 2015. Sachs is also President and Co-Founder of Millennium Promise Alliance, a nonprofit organization aimed at ending extreme global poverty.
