      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      The Theodore and Frances Geballe Research Workshops bring together groups of Stanford faculty and advanced graduate students, as well as visiting scholars and those at other local institutions to present their current research and otherwise explore topics of common intellectual concern. Workshops meet regularly (at least three times a quarter) during the academic year.
      This workshop examines key issues of environmental ethics and policy, including equity – its meaning and measurement, the role of institutions in meeting environmental challenges, and the design of policies aimed at sustainable management of natural resources. This group will examine how the cost of global climate change is calculated and distributed. Additionally, the workshop asks questions such as: Who will bear the greatest burden of rising sea level? How do we calculate the economic costs and who (internationally and nationally) should pay for mitigation and adaptation? Who benefits from international trade of forest products and meat? Should we care about equitable distribution of benefits from international trade? What do we do when equity conflicts with environmental goals?
      This program is funded by a combination of endowments and funds from the Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Stanford University Dean of Research.
