"Hospice Care and the Ethics of Belief"

Caroline's thesis addresses the question of proper treatment for hospice patients regarding how beliefs they have about their life prospects are assessed and approached. Patients’ beliefs about their life prospects can affect their socioemotional wellbeing, whether they have a peaceful passing, and/or their actual life prospects. Hospice workers have a stake in shaping these beliefs and how these beliefs play out practically. Through ethnographic and philosophical analyses of different hospice settings, Caroline will explore various processes of belief formation in patients and how hospice workers may better attend to non-evidential beliefs of patients.
