Ashlyn Jaeger
Associate Director, Ethics, Society, and Technology Initiatives

As the associate director of Ethics, Society, and Technology Initiatives, Ashlyn develops and leads programs aiming to create learning opportunities, support research, and illuminate career pathways at the intersection of ethics and technology. In collaboration with other organizations on campus and in Silicon Valley, she works to expand the Center's ethics and technology offerings, including a case study writing program, Tech Ethics and Policy Fellowships, and Ethics, Society, and Tech Rolling Grants.  Ashlyn joined the Center in 2020 as the program manager for the Ethics, Society, and Technology (EST) Hub, a university presidential initiative jointly managed by the Center for Ethics and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. In that role she built relationships, seeded projects, and piloted programs aimed at sparking a culture shift in the way Stanford prepares its students, faculty, and staff to consider the ethical and societal consequences of advances in science and technology.

She earned her doctorate in sociology with an emphasis in science and technology studies at the University of California, Davis. While at UC Davis, she worked as an outreach and programs coordinator for underrepresented students and a labor organizer for the UC student-workers union. Her experiences collaborating with students and faculty across disciplines inform her approach to connecting and amplifying efforts at Stanford to put ethics at the center of science and technology teaching and research. In her spare time, she enjoys reading feminist science fiction, practicing yoga, and going on walks with her dog Appa.
