Keith Ward - "Stephen Hawking on Nearly Talking about God: Is it true that 'science can now answer all former philosophical questions'?"

In his book The Grand Design, the late Stephen Hawking says that philosophy is dead, and science can now answer all life's ultimate questions. I argue that he was actually doing philosophy, and that his view of an ultimate explanation for the universe is remarkably similar to classical theism, even to the extent of suggesting that without mind, matter cannot exist.

KEITH WARD is a philosopher and theologian, and has been Professor of the History and Philosophy of Religion at the University of London and Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, and presently Professor of the Philosophy of Religion at Roehampton University. keithward.org.uk
