Linda Eggert / Political Theory Workshop

Linda’s work is in moral, political, and legal philosophy, and focuses on questions of global and rectificatory justice, normative and practical ethics, and the ethics of artificial intelligence.

Linda’s project examines what principles apply when human rights are at stake and AI is put in charge. Linda is especially interested in the ethics of delegating certain decisions to AI; questions that arise when we broaden theories of justice, rights, and defensive harming beyond their typical confines; and what rectificatory duties human agents might incur as a result of harms caused through AI systems. Linda also has special interests in the relationship between human rights, democracy, and AI.

In the past, Linda has worked with the German Ethics Council, the Coalition for the International Criminal Court, the Académie Diplomatique Internationale, and the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation.

In 2020/21, Linda was a joint Fellow with Harvard’s Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics. This academic year, Linda is an Interdisciplinary Ethics Fellow at the McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society at Stanford University and at Apple University. In 2022, Linda will join Oxford’s Institute for Ethics in AI as an early career research fellow. Linda holds a doctorate in political theory from the University of Oxford.
