Headshot of Alberto Tono
Civil and Environmental Engineering

Alberto is a PhD candidate in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, working in Professor Martin Fischer’s lab at CIFE. His research is deeply inspired by Stanford Professor Douglas Engelbart’s Intelligence Augmentation (IA) manifesto, and he focuses on exploring if and how GenAI tools can augment the work of architects, designers, and engineers during the design process.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Alberto leads an international research-based nonprofit, the Computational Design Institute. Through its Dreamship program, the institute is dedicated to improving pediatric palliative care using AI and VR technologies. He is particularly passionate about the ethical implications of developing these technologies across different cultures and contexts, with a focus on enhancing the quality of life for children in need.
