Betsy Rajala
Program Director for the Ethics & Society Review

Betsy Rajala is the program director for the Ethics & Society Review, where she oversees partnerships, implementation of reviews, fundraising, and outreach efforts for the program. For the past five years, Betsy worked as program director for the Center for Advanced Study in Behavioral Sciences (CASBS), managing several research projects, workshops, and training institutes to address key social sciences challenges. In her role, she helped projects reach their full potential through extensive fundraising, building relationships with researchers, policymakers, and industry experts, and synthesizing information for public audiences. Additionally, she acted as a member of CASBS’s senior leadership, where she helped advise the director and board of directors on a strategic vision for the Center. Betsy is especially passionate about helping researchers navigate conducting research that is as socially and ethically responsible as it is methodologically sound.

Betsy earned her master's degree in political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Minnesota. While at UIUC, Betsy managed the political science department’s student-subject pool and the Illinois in Washington student internship program. In her spare time, she enjoys building LEGOs, playing video games, reading anything by Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett, and spoiling her dogs, Epsi and Bumi.
