João Paulo Gomes

João Paulo Gomes is a researcher and strategist with a background spanning human-centered design, civic tech, and government. As a UX Researcher, JP has collaborated with teams at Google and Meta to shape product, design, and policy decisions rooted in a deep understanding of user needs, behaviors, and local contexts, covering critical topics including civic participation, authoritative information, election integrity, and the role of AI in enhancing developer experiences.

In his previous role at Meta’s Civic Action & Elections team, JP conducted original research with users and experts in the US, Brazil, India, Germany and Mexico to inform the development and launch of civic-focused product interventions aimed at driving equitable, informed, and safe participation in global elections.

Before transitioning to tech, JP spent a decade as a strategist in the public sector, leading public diplomacy initiatives and contributing with strategic communication efforts at the Presidency of Brazil, the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). During this period, he worked alongside policymakers, diplomats, and public officials to design strategies and campaigns addressing global and domestic challenges including climate change, poverty eradication, and innovation.

JP holds a master’s degree  in Strategic Design from The New School and a Bachelor’s in Journalism and Communications from the University of Brasília, Brazil. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
