Kathryn Myers

Kathryn (Kat) Myers is a PhD. Candidate in Bioengineering in the lab of Dr. Mike Jewett, where her work centers on protein engineering for sustainable, accessible manufacturing of therapeutics. She is also a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) fellow.

Kat is interested in exploring the ethics of protein design as it interfaces with biotechnological development, and understanding how we balance innovation with safeguards against malicious use. She is passionate about advancing protein engineering while ensuring that it is used safely, equitably, and for the public good.

Prior to starting her PhD., Kat worked in the labs of Holly Goodson at the University of Notre Dame developing low-cost eutrophication sensors and Kevin Solomon at Purdue University engineering fungal consortia for converting agricultural waste into commodity chemicals.
