Ethics Where You Are Event Grant
We are excited to announce the Ethics Where You Are event grant, our newest way for students to connect with the Center right from where they are!
At the Center we ask, what do we see around us now that is affecting real human beings— or that will change humanity’s future? Ethics Where You Are is a series of residence hall-specific events that provides Resident Assistants with the opportunity to reflect on this question and start conversations in their communities by bringing together an event of ethical queries and creative elements.
Resident Assistants can choose a topic based on something they are passionate about, an issue they want to explore more deeply, or something that continues a conversation already buzzing in the community. RAs are not expected to be content experts. Rather, we aim to support students with igniting ethically curious conversations and can provide guidance on how to do so. After reviewing your application, a Center staff member will contact you to work together further on your event.
We want to see what you and your residence communities are excited about, and we look forward to reviewing your proposals!
Guidelines
- This event grant is specific to current Stanford Resident Assistants only. If you are not a Resident Assistant and are still interested in applying for funding, please review our Ethics Event Grants which is open to all undergraduate students.
- RAs must select a topic that can explore, expose, or evoke conversations about ethics. The Center’s current areas of focus include climate change, civil dialogue, and the ethics of artificial intelligence; however, Resident Assistants are welcome to suggest their own topic areas as well. You do not need to have expert knowledge on the topic or in ethics— we will work with you on how to frame your event so that it satisfies ethical curiosity.
- RAs are encouraged to use the funds in creative ways that foster high levels of student participation and engagement. Pair conversations with an interactive element like a craft, board game, television or film screening, and more, and feel welcome to suggest possible snacks to be featured at your event.
- RAs can apply to use funding up to $500 per event and will work closely with the Center staff to review budget proposals. Multiple requests and re-submissions per quarter are allowed; however, priority will be given to first-time applicants.
Application Deadline
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Events will require at least 5 weeks lead time from the requested date of the event. This timeline is flexible and will require coordination between the applicant and Center staff.
Examples of Event Formats

We welcome Resident Assistants to develop an event concept of their own or work from one of the listed frameworks. Be as imaginative as you would like!
