Bioethics Fellowship and Bioethics Bowl

The Bioethics fellowship applications are now closed. Applications will reopen in January of 2025.

The Bioethics Fellowship provides six undergraduate students with exposure to ethical questions surrounding biomedical technology, clinical ethics, and medicine.  The Fellowship experience includes three key components:  participation in the Bioethics Bowl, a national debate competition in mid-April involving 15 case studies in biomedical ethics; a pathway for learning about the professional field of biomedical ethics from Stanford faculty, postdocs, and/or graduate students;  and the support of a close-knit community of students.

The Fellowship program begins in early February and lasts through the end of the Spring Quarter.  Applications open in mid-January.

Students meet roughly once per week to prepare for the competition in April.  After the competition, students will meet Stanford experts to further develop exposure to bioethical research and better position themselves for future opportunities in the field.

For questions about the program, please contact Collin Anthony Chen at canthony [at] stanford.edu (canthony[at]stanford[dot]edu).

The 2024 National Bioethics Bowl, hosted by Baylor University, is an intercollegiate competition in which students from universities and colleges around the U.S. debate ethical issues in medicine, biotechnology, and healthcare. Students prepare for the event by studying and drafting responses to a set of fourteen cases. At the bowl, they then compete in several rounds of debate.

We're so proud of our championship team! Congratulations to Mirabai Herz, Rhea Jain, Carolyne Ikeda, Sophia Pribus, Sheruni Pilapitiya, Lauren He, and Collin Anthony Chen (coach) for your impressive achievement.
