Abstract: There are three ways to view responsibility for climate change: causal, moral, and legal. This talk will compare and contrast the climate responsibilities of the oil and gas sector and the animal agriculture sector, as well as the history of the attribution science, the role and evidentiary basis for intentionality, and the way the two industrial sectors have responded to U.S. climate policies.

Bio: Jennifer Jacquet is an interdisciplinary scientist interested in patterns across transboundary environmental problems and the attempts to address them. She is a Professor of Environmental Science and Policy at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science at the University of Miami and affiliated faculty with the Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy. From 2012-2022, she worked in the Department of Environmental Studies at New York University. She is also the author of Is Shame Necessary (Pantheon, 2015) and The Playbook (Pantheon, 2022).
