​​Alvina is a third-year Ph.D. candidate in the Genetics department. Her research centers around cancer genetics, particularly the evolutionary process underlying cancer progression. She is especially interested in early cancer, and her thesis focuses on the development of pre-cancer to cancer. As her projects rely on genetic materials from human participants, she is particularly interested in the ethics of genetic research. She is a co-lead for a class (GENE 220) which explores topics of ethics and genetics. She holds a B.A. in Cell and Systems Biology from the University of Oxford.
